I was fortunate enough to receive a preview copy of several chapters of Microsoft Azure IaaS: Integration, Optimization and Automation, a new book by Anders Bengtsson, Pete Zerger and John McCabe from the Inside the Microsoft Cloud series. I found these chapters to be such a useful source of information that I would be more than happy to purchase my own copy of the book.

Microsoft Azure IaaS: Integration, Optimization and Automation is a 400-page book that provides a technical summary of the latest Microsoft Azure features and capabilities, written specifically for IT pros. The list of authors consists of three true celebrities in the Microsoft Cloud area:

  • Anders Bengtsson, Microsoft Senior PFE focused on System Center and Microsoft Cloud OS
  • Pete Zerger, a 10-time Microsoft MVP
  • John McCabe, Microsoft Senior Premier Field Engineer

The book should be available for purchase later this year; however, some chapters are available for download earlier. If you read this blog post, then you’re among the first to know that Chapter 3: Azure Virtual Networking is already available for download.

The organization of the book is simple and linear. Here’s a brief overview of what kind of coverage you’ll see from the book:

  • Deep-dive into virtual networking, storages and Microsoft Azure VMs
  • Optimizing Microsoft Azure VMs for high workloads (SQL, System Center and others)
  • Automation and self-service, monitoring, reporting and more.

Personally, if you are a Microsoft Azure administrator, just starting with Azure VMs, preparing for certification or are just curious and like learning new things, this book is a must-have. The book is well written and easy to read (a huge plus for technical books). This book will leave you wanting to read it over again. I want to give a big thanks to authors, and I’m eagerly waiting for the day of general availability.
